Disaster Risk Reduction Program
The state of Uttarkhand has been witnessing frequent natural disasters over the past few years. In addition to that unsustainable usage of natural resources, unsustainable tourism and climate change are adversely affecting the fragile mountain ecosystem.
The organization conducts environmental awareness campaigns to sensitize the community about the importance of conserving environmental resources. Meetings with community members are conducted to sensitize them about the existing environmental issues at local level and different low cost and ecologically sustainable practices that can be adopted at individual and community level. The sessions include social and cultural activities, skits, wall writings, street shows, painting, etc. so as to ensure better understanding of the concepts. The society conducts tree plantation drives involving school children and the community. Rallies, street plays are organized to sensitize the public about the ill effects of cutting down trees and deforestation.
Undertaking activities to clean the river Ganga is another major initiative we have been into since the last few years. We have been sensitizing the masses on the importance of keeping our water bodies clean and protecting them from further degradation.
